There are many great Ferraris at the Monterey auctions this year as usual. I may need to write another post to cover some of the others.
Here are some that I think deserve attention.
1952 Ferrari 340 Mexico Berlinetta at RM Auctions.
Estimate: Available Upon Request - ouch, too expensive to write down. Look at the drivers who drove this car, that adds something to the value.
RM says:
280 hp, 4,101 cc SOHC V-12 engine, three Weber 40 mm DCF/3 carburetors, five-speed manual transmission, independent front suspension by double wishbone and transverse leaf spring, rear live axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs and trailing arms, four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes.
- Third of only three 340 Mexico Berlinettas built, purpose built to contest 1952 Carrera Panamericana
- Original, matching-numbers drivetrain
- Ex-Alberto Ascari, Carroll Shelby, Jack McAfee
- 1988 Ferrari Club of America Best in Show; Best Competition Ferrari
- 1989 Best in Class at Pebble Beach Concours
- Extensive recent historic racing and 2007 Pebble Beach entry (Exhibition Only)
1974 Ferrari 365 GT4 Berlinetta Boxer at RM Auctions.
Estimate: $150,000-$200,000 - always a classic at a "reasonable" price for a Ferrari.
RM says:
344 bhp, 4,390 cc horizontally-opposed, DOHC 12-cylinder engine, four Weber triple-choke carburetors, five-speed manual gearbox in rear transaxle, four-wheel independent suspension with unequal-length A-arms, with coil springs and anti-roll bars, twin coil springs at rear, and four-wheel hydraulic disc brakes.
- Ferrari’s first road-going flat 12-cylinder “Boxer” design
- Approximately 17,300 original miles
- One of only 387 built
1971 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Berlinetta at RM Auctions.
Estimate: $295,000-$345,000 - probably more fun to drive than the Boxer above and more expensive too.
RM says:
352 bhp, 4,390 cc double overhead camshaft V-12 engine, six Weber 40DCN20 dual choke carburetors, five-speed manual gearbox, independent front and rear suspension with unequal length A-arms, coil springs and telescopic shock absorbers, four-wheel servo-assisted hydraulic disc brakes.
- Spectacular example of Ferrari’s last true front-engined vintage V-12 supercar
- Ownership history from new
1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa at Gooding.
