Iso Grifo For Sale - A One Of A Kind

by Mike -

The term "one of a kind" may be over used especially when it comes to classic cars. But one of a kind is the perfect description for this 1967 Iso Grifo, chassis number GL630047. It is the only Baldwin-Motion Iso Grifo ever made out of a total of 412 Iso Grifos produced.

This Grifo is for sale now by the original owner Martyn L. Schorr.

In the 1960s, Chevrolet, Baldwin-Motion and Motion Performance were classic American performance brands. Chevrolet produced a full complement of high performance engines and vehicles.

Joel Rosen’s mission at Motion was making them faster and providing a unique look. Baldwin-Motion marketed head turning, very powerful versions of Chevrolet’s hottest models. Iso Grifo No. 047 is the only Iso Grifo to receive the Baldwin-Motion treatment and the only Grifo that has a Motion plaque in the engine compartment.

This Grifo is one of, perhaps, only two in the world still owned by the original owner and, at approximately 12,000 miles, it is certainly one of the lowest mileage Grifo's in existence. Maybe the lowest.

Some of the highlights of Iso Grifo No. 047:

• Manufactured on June 7, 1966, Iso S.p.A., Bresso (Milano), Italy.
• Imported by Malcolm Konner Chevrolet, Paramus, NJ.
• Sixth of 43 Grifos built for export to the U.S.
• Transferred to Baldwin Chevrolet, Baldwin, NY on March 28, 1969.
• Sold new to Martyn L. Schorr on March 31, 1969.
• Delivered to Motion Performance for Baldwin-Motion upgrades.
Zora Arkus-Duntov later supplies new 350/370 Corvette LT1 engine.
• Motion installs new engine, completing Baldwin-Motion conversion.

• All Iso engine dress, including finned magnesium sump, are retained.
• Painted in 1972 by “Buffalo Bob” Gerdes, Circus Automotive, NJ, in original shade of Rosso Monza (Burgundy-Red) using custom Candy-Pearl lacquer with a fine Metalflake Gold base.
• Original Pelle Nera (Black) interior; rare Bertone radio block-off plate.

• Never restored.
• Original MSO (Manufacturer’s Statement Of Origin).
• Original Baldwin Chevrolet Invoice dated March 31, 1969.
• Copy of original “Scheda Caratteristica” (factory build sheet).
• Original Baldwin-Motion documentation letter from Joel Rosen.
• Original Iso-logo leather document “wallet.”
• Original Iso-logo keys and owner service manuals.

This Grifo has been written about many times including in the August 2010 issue of Automobile.

Martyn L. Schorr wrote the book on Baldwin-Motion, Motion Performance: Tales of a Muscle Car Builder(Motorbooks). This Grifo is featured is this book, naturally. He is the editor of Car Guy Chronicles and is the Chief Communications Officer of Sarasota Cafe Racers.
