I know we are all curious about the value of collector cars and how they change over time. While it is difficult to predict the future we can look back and see what were some actual selling prices for our favorite cars. But what does that tell us about the future? Maybe nothing.
We can also look at price guides and see how they have changed their numbers for some of our favorite cars. I will quote from: the Sports Car Market Pocket Price Guide and the Hagerty Price Guide (formerly Cars That Matter Price Guide).
I think it may be interesting to see the changes in their numbers for their latest issue compared to the one year ago issue. All values are for a condition 1 car, the highest value stated without any add ons like wire wheels.
1966-67 Lamborghini Miura P400.
Hagerty | |
May-Aug 2011 | $345,000 |
May Aug 2010 | $299,000 |
SCM | |
2011 | $365,000 |
2010 | $380,000 |
Hagerty has the Miura trending up and SCM has it going down but they are close to the same number now but not close one year ago.
1963-65 Shelby Cobra 289 with rack & pinion steering.
Hagerty | |
May-Aug 2011 | $680,000 |
May Aug 2010 | $585,000 |
SCM | |
2011 | $600,000 |
2010 | $650,000 |
Again Hagerty is trending up and SCM is down but they are not very close either this year or last year. I wonder why?
1971-72 Ferrari 365 GTC/4
Hagerty | |
May-Aug 2011 | $135,000 |
May Aug 2010 | $125,000 |
SCM | |
2011 | $120,000 |
2010 | $110,000 |
They are both trending up and are fairly close.
1965 Shelby GT350
Hagerty | |
May-Aug 2011 | $290,000 |
May Aug 2010 | $277,000 |
SCM | |
2011 | $300,000 |
2010 | $300,000 |
Both are approximately flat and fairly close.
1969-70 Maserati Ghibli
Hagerty | |
May-Aug 2011 | $74,000 |
May Aug 2010 | $57,000 |
SCM | |
2011 | $80,000 |
2010 | $80,000 |
A big difference one year ago but not much difference today.
Let me know if you like this and I will publish some more numbers for other cars. Notice I did not mention Bizzarrini or Iso.
